On a hiatus following his illness, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth will now act in India's first animated 3D film directed by his younger daughter, Soundarya.
Work on his under-production 'Rana', on whose sets he fell ill early this year, has been postponed in favour of the 3D film 'Kochadaiyaan'.
According to a release here, the film will be released in August 2012, after which Rajinikanth will resume shooting for 'Rana'.
This is the first time that a 3D film with "performance capturing technology" is being produced in India.
The Hollywood blockbuster 'Avatar', directed by James Cameron and the recent movie 'The Adventures of Tintin' directed by Steven Spielberg, have been produced with the same technology, the release said.
K S Ravikumar, director of 'Rana', has written the story screenplay, dialogue besides supervising the direction of 'Kochadaiyaan'.
Produced by Eros International and Media one Global entertainment Limited, work on the film is progressing at a fast pace and it is scheduled for release in August 2012, the release said.
Rajinikanth fell sick earlier this year on the sets of 'Rana' and was treated at two hospitals in the city before being flown to Singapore for treatment of a reported kidney ailment.
