Malayalam film industry faces crisis

The Malayalam film industry is in a state of chaos due to constant fights among film organisations and escalating costs.

The Malayalam movie industry, which is known to have churned out classics like Ajayan directed film Perumthachan and veterans such as Mammootty and Mohanlal are in a desperate state of affairs. The reason for the downfall are the never ending strikes and conflicts.

Suresh Kumar, a veteran producer said that if the industry has to survive, then costs have to be slashed. Speaking to a leading newspaper, Kumar said, “How many of you know that in this calendar year, out of 70 films that have been released, six ended up in the red, and 30 films have had a collection of less than Rs 1 million? This is the sorry state of affairs of producers.”
