SPIRIT MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEWS

Spirit movie by Ranjith, the Midas of Malayalam films, reached the screens on 15th June 2012. Spirit is produced under the banner of Ashirvad Cinemas by producer Antony Perumbavoor. Story, screenplay, dialogues and direction are by Ranjith himself. Main Cast includes, Mohanlal, Kaniha, Sanker Ramakrishnan, Nandu, Kalpana, Madhu, Thilakan, Lena etc. Lyrics are penned by Rafeeq Ahmed. Music is blended by Shahabas Aman and frames are by Venu. Now, Spirit was one among the most expected film of 2012, as the combination of Mohanlal With Ranjith was after a long time. Lets movie on and see how Spirit movie review goes.

Among our directors, Ranjith travels in a different and typical path in selecting plots and in presenting them too. From Kayyoppu to Indian rupee we have seen that Ranjith style which has his signature on them, Ranjith’s “Kayyoppu”. After 6 years of long gap the complete actor Mohanlal and Midas of Malayalam director Ranjith teamed up for this film SPIRIT. Lal-Ranjith combo the name itself is a brand.Ranjith knows what do we expect from him and has delivered a beautiful movie once again.

Reghunandhan is an exbanker who has worked in several nations and later on chose Journalism as his next career movie. But,he quits his job after working in some metropolitian cities for writing an English Novel.Meera his wife leaves him with their child because, Reghunandhan loves his peg more than anything and has a very short tempered character. She gets married to her friend Alexy.Even after 7 years of seperation Reghunandhan is still in touch with Meera and Alexy ,who are his best of friends. ‘The Spirit Show’ is one show which goes through some public or social issues as well.Reghunandhan dons the role of the interviewer and questions his guests wihout any fear and points out the mistakes by them always. Meanwhile, forgets his biggest mistake of being an Alcoholic. The story turns when Plumber Mani enters into his life and makes it a little bit meaningful.

Mohanlal has done it again, and has proven to us why he is called a complete actor. He has lived as Reghunandhan and it was Spirit’s heartbeat. His natural flow in the style and mannerisms as an alcoholic makes the audience sit and watch it.His dialogue delivery were absolutly brillliant as usual. In majority of the sequences,it feels that we have got our old Mohanlal back.Kaniha enacted Meera the bold lady very well.Shankar Ramakrishnan as Alexy has done an average job;does not have the looks to portray such a character. His chemistry with Kaniha was good. It is great to see Nandu, an excellent artist who was not used properly by anyone till date, has enacted Plumber Mani at his best.Thilakan also has done his role in his own style as usual.Legendary actor Madhu as Captain Nambiar fits into it.We do not wish to comment more on their performances as words will not be enough if talked about these legends.Sidharth Bharathan deserves an applause for his role. This is his own improvement or Ranjith has made him so?Supporting actors like Govindhan Kutty,Tiny Tom,Suraj Venjaranmood,Kalpana,Lena,T.P Madhavan etc did their part really well.Film Minister Ganesh Kumar’s cameo was fine.

Ranjith has done a brilliant job in casting(Except Alexy) and, narration of the story. He selects a relevant social issue and gives some message to the public.Spirit started off in a simple humorous way and that continued till the last frame.Ranjith has managed to make both first and second halves enjoyable.Dilaogues were powerful and lyrics were excellent.Shahbaz Aman is still hung in his earlier work Indian Rupee.Venu’s fine captures are beautifully edited by Vijay Shankar. All together Spirit is an enjoyable film.

Verdict:-Worth watching once !

Rating:-3.5/5
