Malayalam Movie Review Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla

Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla, is a romance comedy film directed by V. K. Prakash and stars Fahad Fazil in a dual role and Kamalinee Mukherjee. Script by Shankar Ramakrishnan is amazing and director V. K. Prakash has handled the subject with extreme subtlity. Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla falls under the genre of experimental cinema and is extremely interesting.

The script is engaging and slow in the first half. There are some good moments and powerful dialogues. The narrative picks up pace in the second half where the second character Narendran (also played by Fahad Fazil) enters and adds spunk to the script. Many sequences between this character and that of Kamalinee is good to watch. Dance by Kamalinee on the 'gangnam style' is interesting too. Dialogues are bold with double entendre, but goes well with the mood of the film.

Though VK Prakash has experimented with various scripts, his films haven't appealed to the mass audience as such. A little more of sensibility and maturity on the part of script writer and director would have worked in the favour of the film. Background Score is good and goes well with the film.

Story

Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla revolves around the story of the conflict between a writer and the character he creates. The writer has lost his control over the character he creates and the movie plots ahead with the interaction between them. Fahad Fazil plays dual roles - Prem and Narendhran. While one represent the urban life, the other one leads a village life. Fahad first appears as Preman who's the caretaker of a flat at Cochin. Everyone in the flat calls him 'Natholi', the reason for which is unknown. He faces some unfortunate events in the flat and begins to write a story with the same characters in his real life and plays with their lives in his story. We won't spoil the fun by revealing the rest of the story.

Performances

Fahad Fazil is outstanding. His expressions and dialogue delivery only goes to prove that he is one of the best actors that we have in the Malayalam film industry today. Kamalini Mukherjee is average. The other actors have given a decent performance.

Verdict

You might or might not like Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla, but watch it for something different than usual.
