The release of 'Navyarasangal', a book authored by actor Navya Nair, here on Tuesday turned out to be a felicitation of Manju Warrier, who recently announced a return to the tinsel world. Prominent personalities in politics and arts lined up to extend a warm welcome to Manju.
Speaker G Karthikeyan, minister M K Muneer, poet Sugathakumari, filmmaker Sibi Malayil and Sangeetha Nataka Akademy chairman Soorya Krishnamoorthy were all praise for the actress, who was attending her first public event after announcing her comeback.
Karthikeyan, who inaugurated the function, said the actor who has been missing from the scene for the past 14 years has always been a wonder to him. "I was even disappointed because Manju did not win an Urvashi award for her performance in 'Kanmadam','' he said, adding that late actor Thilakan's comment that she was the only actor that made him wonder was the biggest award for Manju.
Muneer went a step ahead and said it was like a close relative moving away when Manju stayed away from films. Next was the turn of Sugathakumari, who extended a warm welcome to the actor on behalf of all Malayalis.
Manju, however, was more aware of the occasion. She chose to speak only about her friend's writing talent. ''The simplicity she displays in her acting is also evident on her words and sentences,'' she said, adding that she was not at all surprised when she learned that Navya was writing a book.
Navya was also praised by the speakers for her efforts to pen her memoirs, which she did in her pregnancy days. All of them were unanimous that the actor has come across as the most politically aware actress in the current generation.
''I know very well that one cannot become an author by just writing a book. Still, she would cherish the experience as she was introduced to and could associate with many writers during the process of bringing out the book,'' Navya said in her vote of thanks.
